Is Traditional Chinese Medicine A Replacement For Western Medicine?
Certainly not. At Azamra, we believe in integrative medical care. That means we work hand-in-hand with your primary care physician to ensure your best care. If you come to our office with strep throat, for example, we will send you to your doctor for antibiotics because they work really well. If you come to your doctor with chronic back pain, however, he may refer you to us before prescribing painkillers or suggesting costly or risky surgery.
What If I Come With A Sore Throat Caused By A Viral Infection?
In that case, we would be happy to treat you. Your regular doctor may prescribe ibuprofen or tylenol to lower your fever and suggest you wait out the illness. Our prescription of antiviral herbal formulas not only reduce symptoms but also speed your recovery. In many cases, a single acupuncture treatment can reduce sore throat pain by 70-80% in 15 minutes.
I Understand Acupuncture Can Relieve Pain, But Does It Hurt?
Maybe a little, but just for a second if at all. The needles we use are as thin as a cat’s whisker. You can fit ten of them inside the tube of a standard hypodermic needle your doctor might use. At most, our patients feel a little pinch as the needle is inserted, but often nothing at all. Once the needle is in the correct spot, however, you may feel a sensation of movement, pressure, tingling, warmth, cold, or ache at the point. This is called “the arrival of qi” and is a sign that the treatment is working.
Do I Have To Believe In Acupuncture For It To Work?
No. Some of our most loyal patients were complete skeptics before their first treatment. See for yourself.
Is Acupuncture Safe?
Absolutely. Acupuncture is safe as long as it is done by a certified provider. Ask to see our Clean Needle Technique (CNT) certification and license by the NCCAOM, the National Certification Committee of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in the USA.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
The answer varies depending on the condition. Generally however, you can expect 4-6 visits for an acute issue, 8-12 for an issue between 6-12 months old, and 24+ treatments for chronic issues of many years.
Do You Accept Insurance?
Yes. We accept Out of Network Insurance Plans with Bluecross and Blueshield, Cigna, Aetna, 1199, Medicare Advantage, and United Healthcare. Send us your Name, Insurance Provider, Policy Number, and Subscriber ID, and we will verify whether or not your are covered for Azamra Acupuncture care.
How Do You Accept Payments?
We accept payments onsite in cash, check, and credit card.
Do I Have To Fill Out All The Forms On The Patient Portal?
Yes for everything except the “Submit a Review” form. All other forms are required by NY State and Federal Law before receiving acupuncture. If you do not fill them out online, please come 20 minutes early to fill them out in our waiting room.
